Ode to Bacon

6 Aug

Hearts make no sense to me. They don’t listen, they don’t follow any logic, and a lot of times, they make dumb decisions. That said, I make most of my choices with my heart.

Eating a bacon sundae was obviously not a decision made with my mind; it was done out of love. And yes, I am writing a review about Baconalia at Denny’s – I never said this would be a classy blog! Only because Baconalia is brilliant. As you may have guessed from the title of this blog, I have a very sincere respect for bacon – and all types:  turkey bacon, dates wrapped in bacon (with Manchego cheese – shoutout to Lulu’s), chicken wrapped in bacon, fruit wrapped in bacon – do you see where I’m going with this? There’s something so comforting about that crunch and smoky flavor.

And so it should come as no surprise that a mound of creamy ice cream adorned with bits of bacon would give me butterflies. I salute the architect of Baconalia – to create something creamy and crunchy, sweet and salty takes a culinary innovator. There are times when my heart is beside itself – when it drowns out friends’ cautions that what I’m eating is gross, when it discards the fact that one dessert may cause me to put on 5 pounds, when  all it sees is something beautiful…even when no one else does. And that’s love.
